Dearest readers,
Happy double whammy Blogmas! It’s Wednesday, December 17, 8:58pm as I begin this post.
Dinner was fashionably non-keto: Shang Hai noodles, xiaolongbao (pork soup dumplings), pork bun, “drunken” chicken. And my pre-dinner snack: quiches, Smucker’s peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and beef jerky. I definitely had a cheat diet today, but I was also quite hungry from not eating my first real meal until 4:30pm! So that’s on me for not properly fueling.
Well, well, what can I say? December is swiftly passing us by, and at the year’s close, I find myself already coming up with a laundry list of New Year’s Resolutions, so I can be a happier, healthier, wealthier version of me. Some goals:
- get back into a regular yoga routine– this will solve a lot of my problems. Even if I can’t afford studio yoga classes, I can always do my own personal yoga practice (I am a yoga teacher, after all. no excuses.)
- quit ALL substances (except caffeine). No more zyns, alcohol, adderall, or any other non-prescription drug that messes with my brain.
- put on my business cap and think like an entrepreneur. I’m doing great work, but I could be working smarter. I need to start strategizing about my business plans for everything I’m doing– fitness, wedding dances, online courses, mental health peer support coaching. Work smarter, not harder.
- invest in continuous education. I plan on getting my yoga therapy certification, and the next cohort begins February 11. It’s a minimum two-year training, after which I will be certified as a yoga therapist, and use yoga as a way to treat mental and physical illness. I can add this to my growing list of healing modalities I offer others, and integrate this service into my existing business.
That’s just a few overarching goals to guide me through 2026 and beyond. By age 30, I want to have eliminated all bad habits with substances from my life. All those toxic lifestyle choices is such a twenties thing… thank you, and goodbye. 30s is about wisdom and deep healing and healthy living.
If I had to sum up yesterday and today in one word, it is: CONNECTION. Last night, I met up with my Italian friend Fabio, who I met on the cruise trip from October. He and I stayed in touch and he’s back in SF for another cruise– a 16 day trip to Hawaii and Mexico! I was able to lend him a helping hand by driving him to the airport to retrieve his luggage that got lost in transit. Can you imagine the horror– landing in SF Tuesday evening after flight delays, having to board a 16-day cruise the next morning, and not having any luggage/clothes because the airline f***’d up?! So after work, I zoomed from Menlo Park to SF, picked him up from his hotel, drove him to SFO, where he picked up his luggage, and drove him back to the city. We hung out at this bar called Sugar Lounge and caught up on the past couple months and what we’ve been up to. He’s a really nice dude, genuinely. We both marveled at the beauty of cruise trips: you meet people from all over the world who you never would have met otherwise. Some of these people become dear friends, and I consider Fabio one of them. He shared stories of his life in Milan, working in the fashion industry, how he enjoys the work he does but wants to continue growing in different sectors within fashion, and how he marvels at my way of life and how fun my work seems– so different than sitting behind a computer doing graphic design all day. We talked about how depression and anxiety run rampant not only in America, but also in Italy, and all over the world. He told me he’s curious about trying therapy, and I encouraged him to do it, and find a therapist he gets along well with. Great conversation with a class-A human. He’s coming back to SF again in March, so it seems that for now, we will meet once every couple months in the year, and that’s how our friendship goes!
Because of my late Tuesday night with Fabio, I didn’t get enough sleep, and overslept my 7:15am alarm. As a result, I was a few minutes late to teaching my 8am pilates class, and the rain made traffic especially bad this morning (California drivers really don’t know how to drive in inclement weather). My students were understanding, though, and I groggily made my way through class. Right after pilates, I trained a client at the country club, and I’m actually house-sitting for this client next week when she goes on vacation over Christmas. I’m considering this a “staycation” getaway, and I’m excited to see the inside walls of an Atherton home.
After training, I drove a whopping 90 MINUTES to the SF Pier 27, where the cruise departs from. I was there to meet another friend from the cruise, Victor from Brazil, who is a crew member aboard the Ruby Princess. He and I met on the dance floor on Deck 18, we shared a spectacular dance filled with lifts and dips and tricks, and we stayed connected. Though we were only able to hang out for 90 minutes in a café, it was still nice catching up on life. Human connection is what makes the world go round! And both Fabio and Victor remarked at how busy I seem on social media, with all my content creation, podcasting, blogging, events, etc. I replied that I am in the busiest time of my life, but I love everything I do so it doesn’t feel like work. Victor reluctantly bade me goodbye at 1pm, and I was about to drive back to Redwood City, when I decided to call up another friend who lives in SF. He was only 20 minutes away, so we met up spontaneously, and took a walk around Candlestick Park. Funny– I actually redownloaded the dating apps and I met him on Bumble. Not sure if this will lead anywhere significant, but I’m going one date at a time, not overthinking, just enjoying the moment and having a good time.
It was a draining couple days with all the driving, and when I finally got home around 4:30pm, I ate some food and crashed in bed, and watched the holiday classic, Love Actually. One of my favorite Christmas movies of all time. I took a 90 minute nap after the movie finished and woke up at 7:30pm for dinner.
Now here I am, wrapping up today’s Blogmas. Hope you guys enjoyed reading. Stay healthy and grounded amidst the upcoming holiday festivities! Time for present-shopping and party-planning. Enjoy the journey. I’ll talk to you guys tomorrow!
